Villarreal have begun work to expand the Ciudad Deportiva José Manuel Llaneza by 10,000 square metres. El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that the project is designed to increase training capacity across the club.

The works are on newly acquired land between pitch five and the new Ronda Sudoeste. The aim is to create more space and improve training conditions for the first team and the Cantera Grogueta.

The plan includes a new 11-a-side pitch, which can be split into two eight-a-side surfaces as required. There will also be three five-a-side areas focused on psychomotricity, aimed at children aged three to five. The first phase could be completed next summer, with the aim of having the new areas ready for the start of 2026-27.

After expansion, the complex will cover 130,000 square metres. It will comprise seven 11-a-side pitches, three eight-a-side pitches and the three new psychomotricity areas, strengthening a facility already regarded as a reference in Spanish football.

This work forms part of a broader improvement plan to be rolled out progressively. A second phase is already being prepared, involving the redistribution and construction of new spaces within the shared complex.

The site currently features natural and artificial grass pitches, a multi-use zone, two main buildings and a residence for young players who move to Vila-real to develop at the club.
