Vitor Pereira is hopeful of having Chris Wood available for Nottingham Forest’s run-in, with the striker closing on a return after knee surgery. The New Zealand forward has been out since October and could be back next month.
According to Nottingham Post, Wood joined the warm-up with team-mates at the Nigel Doughty Academy this morning. Pereira said he does not want to rush the frontman and thinks he can help in the final games.
Forest visit FC Midtjylland in Denmark on Thursday for the second leg of their Europa League last 16 tie, kick-off 5.45pm. They trail 1-0 from the first meeting, so whether Wood features in Europe remains uncertain.
Pereira reported no fresh injuries. Jair Cunha is out with a foot problem, while goalkeeper Stefan Ortega is in contention to play after a calf issue and has been added to Forest’s UEFA A List.
The head coach plans to rotate in Denmark with Sunday’s Premier League trip to Tottenham Hotspur in mind. He has not left any key players at home, stressing a united approach. Wood’s eventual return would be a significant lift in the league, with eight fixtures left to secure survival.
