Ahead of kick-off in the final home game of the 2024/25 campaign, a total of six SV Werder players leaving the club in the summer were given send-offs in front of the Weserstadion crowd. One of whom is Milos Veljkovic, who departs after nine years in Bremen, making him one of the longest-serving Green-Whites.
The 29-year-old Serbia international arrived in Bremen from the Tottenham Hotspur U21s in February 2016 and has since made 243 competitive appearances for Werder’s first team, while also celebrating promotion to the Bundesliga just a year after the club were relegated. The centre-back forms part of SVW’s leadership group and has captained the side on seven occasions. Veljkovic has 35 caps for his nation and departs to join Crvena zvezda in the summer. “My family is here and it means everything to me that so many people have come,” told Veljkovic. “I have no words. I never thought this day would come.”
Anthony Jung made the move to Bremen in summer 2021 ahead of a campaign in the second division. The 33-year-old played over 30 competitive games in each of his four seasons with the Green-Whites, making a total of 129 appearances. Jung also made the switch from playing as a full-back to a centre-half with Werder. It is unknown what next step the player born in Spain intends to take.
Oliver Burke joined SVW after the most recent promotion back to the Bundesliga and was initially loaned to both Millwall and Birmingham before racking up 45 competitive appearances for Werder. The Scotsman enjoyed the most fruitful phase of his career in his younger days and there is still yet to be an official announcement regarding his next employer after he informed club hierarchy of his intention to not sign a new deal.
Abdenego Nankishi leaves Bremen after coming through the Werder academy and being loaned out to Heracles Almelo and 1860 München. He made seven first-team appearances during his 11 years with the club.
The Green-Whites secured the loan acquisitions of André Silva (RB Leipzig) and Issa Kaboré (Manchester City) in January 2025. Both players return to their parent clubs this summer. Silva scored once across eight appearances, while Kaboré provided one assist in nine matches.
SV Werder wishes all six players the very best for the future!
