West Ham have confirmed Nuno Espirito Santo will stay on as head coach despite relegation, two days after the Premier League season ended.

Leeds were beaten 3-0 at the London Stadium but had long been safe, ending 14th on 47 points. West Ham went down regardless, with Tottenham also winning at home to Everton. The club said in a statement that planning for next season began immediately and that Nuno has committed to continue, with the board offering the same backing.

Nuno was called in for post-relegation talks on Monday amid widespread speculation over his future.

Promotion at the first attempt was set as the target, with Nuno described as highly motivated to lead the push. He previously won the 2018 Championship with Wolverhampton Wanderers on 99 points.

West Ham collected 25 points from their final 17 Premier League matches, a 1.47 points-per-game rate that would equate to seventh across a full campaign.

Improved mentality and togetherness since January, allied to the upturn in performances and results, underpinned the decision to keep faith with him.
