Gareth Bale could be part of a group that completes the purchase of Plymouth Argyle.
Gareth Bale has an estimated net worth of around £120m as he looks to get back involved in football by fronting a consortium to buy Plymouth Argyle.
The Welsh legend retired from football in 2023 after a short spell with MLS outfit Los Angeles FC, and he has generally kept a low profile since.
However, to the surprise of many, it appears Bale could return to the game as a co-owner, as it has been reported that he is teaming up with a US private equity firm that are looking to purchase Plymouth.
It’s no secret that current Argyle owner Simon Hallett is looking for fresh investment in the club, and the Telegraph has claimed that Bale could be part of a new-look setup at Home Park.
They explain how there is genuine US interest, and the group behind it would use Bale as the celebrity figure to ‘add glamour’ to the deal for Argyle, who were relegated to League One last season.
It’s not clear exactly who or how many are involved, but it’s said that the members of the Storch family are part of the investment group.
Of course, it’s nothing new for a takeover to include minority investment from a famous face.
Bale’s former Real Madrid teammate Luka Modrić has done something similar with Swansea City, whilst NFL legend Tom Brady is part of Birmingham City’s US group.
Meanwhile, golfing duo Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas are minority investors at Leeds United.
Obviously, we don’t know the level of investment that Bale will put in, or how much the group are looking to buy Plymouth for.
But, even though Bale doesn’t have the wealth of some other owners, it’s fair to say he has done very well financially from his remarkable playing career. That’s after Wales Online stated he has a net worth in the region of £120m.
The Southampton academy graduate really made a name for himself after his move to Spurs, and he went to another level after joining Real Madrid in a deal worth over £85m, which made it a world-record at the time.
He was believed to earn £600,000 a week with the Spanish giants, with Bale spending nine years at the Santiago Bernabéu, and he was hugely successful, as he ended up winning the Champions League five times, three La Liga’s, and a Copa del Rey trophy.
The former attacker is also a hero in Wales after starring for his country during his playing career, which included helping them reach the semi-final of Euro 2016. That status meant Bale was popular with many companies for advertising, which would have helped build his brand and wealth.
Bale owns a bar in Cardiff, and he has also , whilst he has other business interests.
