Hillsborough will be sold out when Sheffield Wednesday host West Brom in the final game of the season this weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday have endured a torrid season, with Henrik Pedersen’s side having won just one of their 45 games so far.

Of course, there is context to that, with the future of the club in jeopardy back in October when the club entered administration, and they have been hit with two points deductions, as well as operating with a squad that lacks experience at this level.

Despite that, Wednesday’s supporters have rallied, sticking by the team throughout the campaign, which includes selling out away games regularly, and they still have averaged over 22,000 at Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday v West Brom will be the highest attendance in the Championship this season

Pleasingly for Wednesday, there has been some real positive news on the takeover front, with the Storch family expected to complete their deal to buy the club.

That should be announced prior to Saturday’s final game against West Brom, which will add to the atmosphere and mood around the club.

It has already been confirmed that the game against the Baggies has been sold out, as Wednesday fans come out in their numbers for the final fixture.

As Hillsborough is the largest capacity in the Championship, that means Saturday’s game will be the biggest attendance of the season, with West Brom selling out their 2,460 allocation for the clash.

So, there is likely to be in excess of 35,000 for the game, which is a remarkable turnout for a second tier game, and it shows the potential of the Yorkshire outfit, which is no doubt a major factor in why the Storch family wanted to buy the club.

Sheffield Wednesday and West Brom can look to a brighter future

Obviously, the priority for Sheffield Wednesday for some time has been to get new owners, so it’s a major relief that the takeover is now set to be finalised.

Clearly, they will have more hurdles to overcome in the short-term, but there is optimism about what the future holds under the US group, and David Storch is certain to get a fantastic reception when he greets the supporters at Hillsborough this weekend.

Whilst West Brom’s situation wasn’t as bleak, they have had a tough season as well, but they have been revitalised under James Morrison, who the hierarchy turned to after the appointments of Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay spectacularly backfired.

The former player took over when relegation seemed a real possibility. Yet, Morrison has transformed the Baggies, and they will head to Hillsborough unbeaten in ten, which has ensured there are no final day nerves, with their safety secured even with a points deduction.

Therefore, it’s no surprise they have sold all their tickets, with the fans getting behind Morrison and the team, which includes taking big away followings to Blackburn and Preston recently.

This will be a final chance for Albion fans to show their appreciation to Morrison and the team this season, and celebrate the news that he has landed the job on a permanent basis, with West Brom hoping this can be the start of a successful period under the 39-year-old.
