The future of Manuel Neuer is coming back into focus at FC Bayern. While patience has been the dominant theme of late, there is now new movement surrounding the captain. A decision could be made sooner than previously expected.

According to information from Italian transfer insider Nicolò Schira, Bayern have made Manuel Neuer a concrete contract offer. The goalkeeper is set to extend his contract, which expires in the summer of 2026, until 2027. The record champions are now waiting for final feedback from the 39-year-old as to whether he will accept the offer or not.

It remains to be seen whether there is any truth to this report. Those responsible have deliberately kept the personnel issue quiet recently, stressing that there is no time pressure and that talks should only be intensified later in the season.

Sporting director Max Eberl is said to be very relaxed about Neuer’s future. Last year, he repeatedly stated that they did not want to rush the situation and would wait and see how the keeper’s form and physical condition developed. The timing of possible talks was also clearly limited.

„Manu will be 40 in March. The way Manu is currently performing is world class,“ Eberl had emphasised, while also explaining: „At some point, the body is no longer ready for professional soccer, but that’s not the case with Manu at the moment.“ Accordingly, it was said at the time: „We are relaxed. Towards the end of the season, April, May, we will talk and see how it goes on. At the moment, he’s doing incredibly well.“

This line also had to do with experiences from the recent past. The club management wanted to avoid making public promises after earlier statements on contract extensions had caused internal unrest. Eberl himself put it in a nutshell at the time: „We’ll wait and see. Manu should turn 40 first. Slide over that well. Then we’ll see what happens.“

Neuer himself had also recently signaled that he wanted to take his time to make his decision. „It’s really about the moment, to say, okay, how is my body? How is my health? Does it make sense to continue? And I have to delay this decision a little longer,“ he said, citing „towards the end of March, April“ as the timeframe.
