Liverpool recorded their second UEFA Champions League victory of the season with a 5-1 victory at Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday evening.
Frankfurt opened the scoring before the half-hour mark. Florian Wirtz was dispossessed, allowing Mario Gotze to find Rasmus Kristensen, who applied the finish.
Conor Bradley should have restored parity for Liverpool in the 32nd minute, but could not get his effort on target.
Three minutes later, former Frankfurt man Hugo Ekitike levelled the scores, finishing a brilliant counter-attacking move.
Shortly after, captain Virgil van Dijk put Liverpool ahead, heading home from Cody Gakpo’s corner-kick.
Ibrahima Konate added to the Reds lead just before the stroke of halftime with a towering header.
Liverpool made a substitution after the restart, replacing Isak with Federico Chiesa.
The substitute nearly scored with an acrobatic finish after Wirtz headed into the area, only to see his effort drift wide.
Frankfurt had Zetterer to thank as the goalkeeper made a good save to prevent Wirtz from compounding their woes.
But the German goalkeeper could not prevent Gakpo from adding to the Reds’ advantage, with Wirtz putting the ball on the plate for the Dutchman to score.
Wirtz was the provider again in the 70th minute, combining with Szoboszlai who fired the ball ferociously into the net.
Seven minutes from time, Frankfurt created their first opening in the second half, when Fares Chabi fired the ball wide of the right post.
Mohammed Salah should have added the icing on the cake for Liverpool when he was picked out in the penalty area, but could only produce a weak shot.
The victory ends Liverpool’s four-game losing streak. The Reds return to action in the Premier League against Brentford on Saturday, aiming to get back to winning ways in the top-flight.
