With Memphis in tow, Corinthians arrive in Santos for Copa do Brasil opener

On the night of this Tuesday (27th), Corinthians arrived in Santos with their eyes on the debut of the Brazilian Championship. On the night of this Wednesday (28th), at 8:00 PM (Brasília time), the Alvinegro will host Bahia at Vila Belmiro, aiming to start the championship on the right foot, as well as to have a better campaign than last year, when the club finished only mid-table.

For the match, 24 players have been called up, with the main novelty being forward Memphis Depay, who will have the chance to play for the first time in the 2026 season, as he had been undergoing improvement and physical reconditioning work in the first weeks of the year. The number 10 was not included in the squad for the team's first five matches of the year.

Coach Dorival Júnior will not be able to count on two players for the match: defender Cacá (physical transition after an abdominal injury) and midfielder José Martínez (still awaiting the renewal of his passport to return to Brazil). Both have also not yet been registered for the Brazilian Championship. The defender was recently linked with Athletico-PR and has lost his place in the squad over the past few months. His contract runs until December 2028.

In addition to them, the following have also not been registered for the national competition: goalkeeper Matheus Donelli (out of favor at Corinthians since last year), right-back João Vitor Jacaré (played only in the team's debut in the Paulistão and was on the bench against RB Bragantino, São Paulo, and Santos), midfielder Luiz Gustavo Bahia (played only 45 minutes against RB Bragantino and was among the substitutes against Ponte Preta and São Paulo), and midfielder Gui Amorim (has not played this season, remaining on the bench in the matches against Ponte Preta and Red Bull Bragantino).

Defender Renato and midfielder Alex Santana, both out of the plans of the Corinthians coaching staff, continue training separately while they define their new destinations. The former is under contract until July 2027 and the latter, in turn, until the end of the same year.
