Vasco da Gama have identified Vinícius Souza as a midfield target, but Wolfsburg are unwilling to sanction a loan, complicating the plan. ESPN reports that the Bundesliga club have no interest in a temporary deal, the model favoured by Vasco.
Wolfsburg recently paid 15 million euros to sign the Brazilian from Sheffield United, with a further two million in add-ons. Their priority is to keep the asset or agree only a permanent sale to recover funds, making a loan unfeasible for now.
Vasco also face competition from Corinthians, who have opened formal talks.
Salary is another hurdle. Vinícius Souza, a Flamengo academy product, earns about R$ one million per month in Europe.
To date, Vasco have made only preliminary enquiries and have not submitted a formal offer. Without movement from Wolfsburg on a temporary deal, discussions remain stalled at an early stage.
