Wolves are weighing a potential return for Birmingham loanee Tommy Doyle next season, ExpressAndStar.com understands.

The 24-year-old has made 38 appearances in all competitions for Birmingham this season but has not secured a regular starting place.

The Blues have an obligation to buy Doyle for around £10million if they are promoted to the Premier League, but they sit 11th and promotion appears unlikely.

Wolves remain bottom of the Premier League and are expected to be relegated to the second tier.

Head coach Rob Edwards, who previously worked with Doyle at England under-20 level, declined to discuss an individual’s future. He said he knows Doyle well, recognises his qualities, and has faced him in the Championship, but stressed the midfielder must focus on Birmingham for now.

Wolves also have other loanees who could return next season, including Sasa Kalajdzic, Nasser Djiga, Marshall Munetsi and Fer Lopez. Edwards said staff, including Matt Jackson, will watch them and monitor minutes and impact, while his focus stays on the current games and building next season’s squad.
