World Cup 2026 qualifiers: Comoros sweep past Central African Republic and reignite their campaign
The Comoros dominated Central African Republic (2-0) this Sunday, September 7, in Miknâs, Morocco, during the 8th matchday of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. Youssouf M’Changama and Myziane Maolida secured all three points for their side.
Comoros found their form again this Saturday in Meknès. Stefano Cusin's men delivered a high-quality first half against the Wild Beasts of the Lower Ubangi. In the 20th minute, captain Youssouf M'Changama showcased his technique with a superb strike from the edge of the box to open the scoring. The Comorians didn’t take long to double their lead before the break. In the 39th minute, Faïz Selemani set up Myziane Maolida perfectly, who calmly finished past the Central African goalkeeper to make it two.
After the break, Rigobert Song's Central African Republic tried to respond but ran into a well-organized Comorian defense. The hosts piled on the pressure, with a powerful shot from Ghislain Mounguide and an attempt from Amos Youga, but a lack of finishing touch proved costly for the Wild Beasts.
This precious victory lifts Comoros to second place in Group I with 15 points, just one behind leaders Ghana. The islanders now edge ahead of Mali and Madagascar in this high-octane race for qualification.
