Namibia was defeated 2-1 by Malawi this Friday, September 5, in Francistown, Botswana. This loss seriously jeopardizes the Brave Warriors' ambitions in Group H of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Namibians started this clash in second place in Group H with 12 points, behind leaders Tunisia (19 points). At the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium, the Brave Warriors needed to secure three crucial points against Malawi to strengthen their position. But things didn't go according to plan.

The Flames took an early lead

Richard Mbulu opened the scoring for Malawi in just the 5th minute, setting the tone for the contest. This early goal allowed the Flames to play the rest of the match with confidence. Namibia tried to respond, but ran up against a well-organized Malawian defense. Gabadinho Mhango doubled the lead in the 53rd minute for Malawi. The Marumo Gallants striker took advantage of a fine assist from his teammates to beat the Namibian goalkeeper and give his side a comfortable cushion.

Mhango's goal left Namibia in a tough spot, trailing by two goals. Deon Haihambo revived Namibian hopes by pulling one back in the 86th minute, thanks to a pass from Riaan Hanamub. This late goal reignited the suspense in the closing minutes, but Namibia's efforts were not enough to snatch an equalizer.

This victory allows Malawi to climb up the Group H standings with 9 points from 7 matches. The Flames are now closing in dangerously on Namibia, which remains second with 12 points and feels the competition tightening behind them.
