Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has provided his take on the red card shown to Dean Huijsen during his side’s latest outing.
Real, of course, marked their return to action a short time ago.
In the club’s first outing post-international break, Los Blancos made the trip to Anoeta, for a meeting with Real Sociedad.
And when all was said and done, Xabi Alonso’s troops kept alive their flawless opening to the campaign, courtesy of a 2-1 triumph.
As alluded to above, though, en route to as much, one sour note was forthcoming on the personnel front.
This came upon Dean Huijsen being shown a straight red card.
The 20-year-old was responsible for a clumsy challenge in his own half, as hosts Sociedad went on the break.
Replays showcased the fact that Huijsen was in fact not the last man, with Éder Militão having been covering for his defensive partner.
After referee José Munuera Montero opted against going to VAR, however, the decision stood, leaving Real Madrid furious.
Speaking to the media post-match, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of the red card was quickly put to Xabi Alonso.
And the Spanish tactician did not bite his tongue, in confirming his belief that:
“It was a yellow card for me. Militão was close, the ball wasn’t under control, they were 40 meters away (from goal). Watching the replay, I still don’t change my mind. The referee gave me his explanation, and I wasn’t convinced.”
