Stade Rennais has completed the signing of Moroccan striker Yassir Zabiri from Famalicao (Portugal) on a three-year contract.

At just 20 years old, Zabiri is already establishing himself as one of the most promising young talents. He made a name for himself at the U20 World Cup in Chile, finishing as the tournament’s top scorer and netting twice in the final against Argentina.

The club’s executive director, Arnaud Pouille, praised the new signing, highlighting that Rennes is banking on the player’s rapid development in the coming months.

For his part, Zabiri expressed his excitement at the prospect of playing in Ligue 1. He explained that his decision to join Rennes was based on a strong belief in the club’s sporting project, which is renowned for trusting young players and helping them develop. The Moroccan forward also revealed that before making up his mind, he sought advice from Nayef Aguerd, defender at Olympique de Marseille, and Abdelhamid Aït Boudlal, a Stade Rennais player. Their glowing feedback about the club’s environment only strengthened his determination to take on this new challenge.

Trained for nine years at the Mohammed VI Academy, Zabiri began his professional career with Union Touarga in January 2024. He then moved to Famalicao in the summer of the same year, before committing to Stade Rennais during this transfer window.
