Mattia Zaccagni’s recovery is progressing quicker than expected, and Lazio hope the captain could be available for the Coppa Italia semi-final against Atalanta.

He remained in Rome for a scheduled assessment with club staff and, according to Corriere dello Sport, those tests showed his right thigh is healing faster than anticipated.

The 30-year-old has four goals and one assist in 25 competitive matches this season, but he suffered a serious thigh strain a couple of weeks ago.

The injury forced him to withdraw from international duty ahead of the 2026 World Cup play-offs. He had been due to travel with the group to Bosnia and Herzegovina for moral support alongside Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Guglielmo Vicario.

He is now hoping to recover in time to feature in the semi-final on 22 April. The first leg finished 2-2 at the Stadio Olimpico, so the tie remains finely poised.
