According to Sky Sport Italia, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is also a major injury doubt for AC Milan, who are decimated against Fiorentina.

It kicks off at San Siro on Sunday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

There had already been a huge number of problems for the Rossoneri, who must do without Adrien Rabiot, Christian Pulisic, Pervis Estupinan and Ardon Jashari.

It was reported today that Christopher Nkunku was struggling after a knock on international duty and would not be available.

Now Sky Sport Italia claim that Loftus-Cheek had been expected to start, but he too is not 100 per cent fit after feeling a muscular twinge in the final training session.

There will be a fitness test on Sunday before a decision is made, but the chances of the England international starting are now slim.

It means Milan could play Rafael Leao as the centre-forward with support from Alexis Saelemaekers, with neither of them fully fit after muscular injuries.

This is because Santiago Gimenez could be kept on the bench for the second half, having returned from international duty with Mexico feeling fatigue.

Zachary Athekame signs for Milan (@acmilan)

Zachary Athekame and Davide Bartesaghi are even options for more advanced roles, seeing as usually they would be considered full-backs.

Alex Jimenez has only just returned to full training with the squad and might not be risked either.

Probable Milan (3-5-1-1): Maignan; Pavlovic, Tomori, Gabbia, Pavlovic; Athekame, Ricci, Modric, Fofana, Bartesaghi; Saelemaekers; Leao
