Which region of Africa holds the highest number of Africa Cup of Nations titles?
Throughout the competition's history, it's UNAF and WAFU that boast the largest trophy collections in their cabinets.
For UNAF, this dominance is largely due to Egypt’s seven triumphs, including an incredible three consecutive titles between 2006 and 2010. Alongside the Pharaohs, other North African teams have also tasted glory: Algeria twice (1990 and 2019), Morocco in 1976, and Tunisia in 2004.
In West Africa, Ghana (4), Nigeria (3), and Côte d'Ivoire (3) have led the charge, while Senegal clinched the region's 11th title in 2021.
Central Africa boasts 8 titles, while both East & Central Africa and COSAFA (South Africa and Zambia) have two each.
Here are the regional winners:
WAFU – 11 titles: Ghana (4), Nigeria (3), Côte d'Ivoire (3), Senegal (1)
COSAFA – 2 titles: South Africa (1), Zambia (1)
