Matias Soulé is open to playing for Italy if Argentina do not step forward and call him, revealed the Roma star’s agent. ‘It is all up in the air and he is available.’
The 22-year-old was born and raised in Argentina, but has some Italian ancestry, which allowed him to gain citizenship.
He has been in the Peninsula since moving to the Juventus youth team in January 2020, going on loan to Frosinone before his €25.6m plus bonuses transfer to Roma in 2024.

“He is working for international duty, and is one of the only young Argentine talents who hasn’t been given a single minute of football yet,” agent Martin Guastadisegno told LaRoma24.it.
“He is becoming a leader at an important club like Roma and he deserves a chance. We know Argentina have many players in that role, but considering the consistency of his performances, Matias would deserve that opportunity.
“His dream is to play in a World Cup. He is an Italo-Argentine, I don’t know what might happen if the Argentina situation doesn’t change.
“It’s all up in the air at the moment, what I can say is that legally he has the option to play for Italy and he is available.”

It has been a very strong start to the season at Roma, contributing three goals and two assists in six Serie A appearances, helping them top the table.
“I will not forget the criticism he received last season, when after just two months some newspapers wrote that he was the new Juan Iturbe. I saw a lad who did not get discouraged after missing a penalty, he fired up his teammates after scoring against Fiorentina, and is becoming a leader of this team.”
There had been interest from several Premier League sides over the summer, but Soulé remains committed to Roma.
“This is a very important club and he wants to take Roma into the Champions League,” continued the agent.
“We must thank Claudio Ranieri for giving him so much confidence last season, helping him grow from game to game. Gian Piero Gasperini is one of the best coaches in Italy, and you can see the results of this work.
“We also thank Daniele De Rossi, who was determined to bring him to Roma last year.”
