Anthony Gordon led Newcastle to a commanding half-time position, with the visitors 5-0 up at Karabagh in their Champions League play-off first leg in Azerbaijan. L'Équipe highlights the scale of his first-half display.
The 24-year-old struck inside two minutes to open the scoring, becoming Newcastle’s all-time top scorer in the competition with seven, then quickly moved his personal tally to 10.
He converted a penalty on 32 minutes to make it 3-0.
Almost from the restart, he dispossessed Kévin Medina, Karabagh’s centre-back, rounded the goalkeeper and rolled into an empty net for 4-0 on 33 minutes.
Already on a hat-trick, Gordon won and dispatched another penalty on 45+2 to complete his first-half quadruple.
