Antoine Griezmann will start on the bench for Atlético Madrid in Tuesday’s Champions League play-off second leg against Bruges at the Metropolitano, kick-off 18:45.

L'Équipe reports that Diego Simeone, 55, has picked Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth up front. Alvarez was rested at the weekend, while Sorloth hit a brace against Espanyol Barcelona. Griezmann had started Atlético’s previous two matches.

The decision comes with the France forward under the spotlight. Orlando City want to bring him to MLS before 26 March, and he is also drawing interest from Britain. He is France’s third most-capped player with 137 caps and 44 goals.

Ademola Lookman, who has begun brightly in Madrid with four goals and two assists in six games, will also be among the substitutes.

Atlético’s starting XI: Oblak, Llorente, Pubill, Hancko, Ruggeri, G. Simeone, Cardoso, Koke (c.), Baena, J. Alvarez, Sorloth.
