Scans have confirmed a medium-grade calf injury for Flamengo playmaker Arrascaeta, leaving his World Cup place at risk for Uruguay, according to Coluna Do Fla.

The No 10 is awaiting the national team staff's final decision on his involvement at the tournament. The problem is similar to Neymar's issue with Brazil, and the forward remains in their squad.

Arrascaeta felt discomfort in training on Tuesday and departed the session, prompting immediate concern about its severity. There is no definitive decision on a potential replacement, and the camp remains hopeful he can still feature, pending further assessment.

FIFA regulations permit squads to replace injured players up to 24 hours before their opening match, provided the incoming player is on the preliminary list.

Uruguay, under Marcelo Bielsa, have chosen not to play warm-up friendlies. They open on 15 June at 19:00 Brasília time against Saudi Arabia, then face Cape Verde on 21 at 19:00. Their group campaign ends against Spain on 26 at 21:00 Brasília time.
