Arsenal opened their WSL season with a comfortable 4-1 win at the Emirates, though they had to come from behind to do it.
The visitors struck first when Kosovare Asllani converted a penalty after Katie Reid’s clumsy challenge. That only lit a spark under the Gunners, though, and debutant Olivia Smith produced a stunner from distance to level things up.
Chloe Kelly turned the game on its head just before the break, tapping in from Alessia Russo’s cutback, before second-half goals from Stina Blackstenius and Frida Maanum wrapped things up.
With over 38,000 in attendance, Arsenal looked every bit in control once they found their rhythm, while London City’s bright start quickly faded.
Next up for Renée Slegers’ side is a London derby away at West Ham on Friday night.
