Two Premier League title contenders go head-to-head at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday as an in-form Arsenal host a resurgent Manchester City.
The Gunners have enjoyed an excellent start to the season and boast a strong recent home record against City. The visitors, meanwhile, are looking to build on back-to-back victories after a stuttering start to their own campaign.
Mikel Arteta’s main concern is the fitness of captain Martin Ødegaard, who faces a late test on a shoulder problem. The team is also without long-term absentees Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus. William Saliba, however, is expected to return to the heart of the defence.
Pep Guardiola could be boosted by the return of defender John Stones, who is back in training. The manager will be without the injured trio of Rayan Cherki, Omar Marmoush, and Mateo Kovačić. Key midfielder Rodri should be fresh for the clash after being withdrawn early in the midweek win over Napoli.
The Gunners are in superb form, sitting second in the table with 10 points from four games. Their success has been built on a rock-solid defence that has conceded just one league goal all season. Furthermore, their home form is formidable; they have won their last three Premier League games at the Emirates by a stunning aggregate score of 9-0.
After a slow start, the Citizens appear to have found their groove with consecutive wins over Manchester United and Napoli. However, they have a very poor record in matches immediately following a European fixture, having lost five of their last seven such games. That run includes a 5-1 thrashing on their last visit to this stadium.
Possible Arsenal starting XI: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Merino, Zubimendi, Rice; Eze, Madueke, Gyokeres
Possible Manchester City starting XI: Donnarumma; Khusanov, Dias, Gvardiol, O’Reilly; Rodri, Silva, Reijnders; Foden, Haaland, Doku
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Ultra HDR in the UK. Coverage begins at 4:00 pm BST.
