Backup Real Madrid star ‘is beginning to convince’ Xabi Alonso | OneFootball

A member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid is beginning to win over manager Xabi Alonso.

That’s according to Marca, who point towards Dani Ceballos as the player in question.

Former Arsenal man Ceballos was of course widely expected to depart Spain’s capital this past summer, after Real Madrid agreed to sanction his sale to French outfit Olympique Marseille.

The transfer ultimately collapsed at the last minute, but the saga as a whole was widely interpreted as a lack of faith in the midfielder’s talents on the part of new Blancos headmaster Xabi Alonso.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media this week is anything to go by, then Ceballos appears to be gradually earning the trust of his manager.

The 29-year-old was afforded a starting berth on Wednesday night, in Real Madrid’s Champions League meeting with Kairat.

This marked his third in Los Blancos’ last six fixtures. And once again, Ceballos impressed, keeping things ticking over in neat and tidy fashion.

In turn, it should come as little surprise to hear of confirmation on the part of Marca that:

‘The midfielder is beginning to convince Xabi and continues to gain weight in the team.’
