Hector Fort was one of many players to leave Barcelona last summer in search of more prominence elsewhere.

The young right-back joined Elche on a season-long loan deal, as Barcelona wanted him to gain more game time at the highest level of football.

So far, the move appears to be working out quite well for Fort, who has emerged as a key performer for Elche this season.

Barcelona impressed by Fort’s progress

According to SPORT, Barcelona are quite impressed by the performances of Fort, who is flourishing under the leadership of Eder Sarabia.

The youngster has already racked up nine competitive appearances for the club and most recently impressed against Real Madrid.

Deploying as a right wing-back, Fort had a majestic game against Los Blancos, a game in which he was able to neutralise the threat of Alvaro Carreras.

Fort’s commitment, coupled with his defensive shift, helped Elche secure a 2-2 draw with Real Madrid last month – a result that helped Barcelona greatly.

While he was not a regular in the team before, the performance vs Real Madrid was a turning point for Fort at Elche, with Sarabia now relying on him heavily.

In their latest game, a Copa del Rey tie vs Quintanar, Fort scored the match-winning goal for Elche in extra time.

In light of his impressive performances at Elche, Barcelona are closely monitoring the youngster’s progress.

Bojan, in particular, is closely looking at Fort’s progress as the former attacker is responsible for overseeing the development of all loaned players from Barcelona.

From a sporting perspective, Fort’s performances are quite promising for Barça, considering the fact that the team lacks a proper alternative for Jules Kounde, whose form has been quite the concern at Barcelona.

Eric Garcia, who has just signed a new contract, is available as a potential alternative. But coach Hansi Flick often requires the Spaniard’s services elsewhere on the pitch.

Fort, therefore, could make a strong case for returning to the Barcelona fold next season if he can keep up his performances at Elche.
