With the summer finally here, Barcelona management is working round the clock to complete their priorities in the market, one of which is the renewal of Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutchman has re-established himself as a vital cog in the Barcelona midfield, which has prompted the club to push for his renewal.

De Jong’s current contract at Camp Nou expires in 2026, which is why Barcelona are extra keen on ensuring a renewal so that the player doesn’t have the liberty to leave on a free transfer at the end of next season.

Frenkie de Jong asks to terminate Ali Dursun’s contract

According to Gerard Romero, a new chapter has emerged in De Jong’s saga, one that could favour Barcelona greatly.

As per the report, the Barcelona midfielder has asked his lawyer to terminate the contract of Ali Dursun, his representative.

This is a significant move considering the fact that Dursun was becoming a big hindrance for Barcelona in their quest to get de Jong to renew his contract.

Barcelona, after all, have received the green light from Joan Laporta to renew the contract of De Jong. All that was left was to find an agreement with the player’s agent.

However, Dursun was playing a key role in stalling the talks, often asking for a bigger salary in order to gain bigger commissions.

But it appears De Jong himself is fed up with his agent, and the termination of Dursun’s contract will go a long way in helping Barça find an agreement with the Dutch international.

Barcelona’s objective now is to ensure De Jong’s renewal by the end of the month so that they can focus on other priorities in the market, which includes the acquisition of a new attacker.
