PSG have made a habit of targeting standout French players in recent windows, bringing in Bradley Barcola, Désiré Doué, and Lucas Chevalier as part of that strategy.
That approach seems set to continue as they look to strengthen their defense. Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté has been mentioned as a possibility, though PSG may focus on another high-profile French center back.
Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano, whose contract expires after the 2025–26 season, has reportedly caught PSG’s attention. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano noted the club is keeping a close watch on his situation.
Romano added that a move could become possible in the summer of 2026 if Upamecano decides not to extend with Bayern, opening the door for a free transfer.

Amid transfer rumors, Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer spoke about the future of Upamecano at the German club.
“I’m optimistic to get new deal done,” Hainer said (h/t Fabrizio Romano). “I’m hearing that he’s extremely happy at Bayern, he feels incredibly comfortable in the team, and he also feels incredibly comfortable with the coach.”
Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport recently reported that PSG are preparing an offer for Upamecano if he decides not to extend his Bayern contract. Real Madrid has also reached out to the player’s representatives. Bayern remain in talks with Upamecano’s camp, but no agreement has been reached.
The French defender could also settle his next move ahead of the FIFA World Cup next summer.
“I hope so,” Upamecano told L’Equipe (h/t Paris Fans) when talking about whether he intends to have his future settled by the World Cup. “My agent is handling it. We’ll make the right decision. I’m getting good advice. I’m focused on my season, on my club and national team goals. My mind isn’t on that right now.”
Moreover, the defender also discussed his current situation with Bayern Munich and whether he sees himself playing in France for PSG.
“I’ve always said I feel good at Bayern,” Upamecano added. “I have a great coach. I get along well with my teammates… I’m under contract with Bayern. I have goals. I’m very grateful if there are clubs interested in me.”
