Bayern remain flawless with commanding victory in Frankfurt

Luis Díaz scoring an outstanding brace, a host of new records being set, and a dominant 3-0 win in Eintracht Frankfurt’s backyard – FC Bayern have once again continued their unstoppable start to this season. What’s more, their lead at the top of the Bundesliga was extended on Saturday evening as a result. Could there be a more perfect time for a fun visit to Oktoberfest on Sunday before a two-week international break ahead of a top-of-the-table clash at the Allianz Arena against fiercest and closest rivals, Borussia Dortmund?

The psychological impact of a lightning-fast start

Some fans hadn’t even settled into their seats yet at Deutsche Bank Park – which was packed to the rafters with some 59,500 spectators - when some were already back on their feet in excitement as FC Bayern took just 15 seconds to score against fourth-placed Eintracht in this heavyweight Bundesliga clash. The opener was not only the fastest goal of the season but also Bayern’s quickest goal in the league since 14 September 2024, when Jamal Musiala likewise netted after only 15 seconds in Kiel. Vincent Kompany sang summer arrival Diaz’s praises, saying: "His work rate and his energy are a perfect fit for us. Lucho is always involved in the game - you have to be there so quickly in the first place to get ahead of the defender."

Such a rapid opener had an impact not just tactically, but psychologically as well. This early setback reopened a wound that was only just beginning to heal for Eintracht. Having defeated Mönchengladbach 6–4 on the previous matchday and lost 5-1 in the Champions League at the hands of Atlético Madrid in midweek, Díaz’s powerful, energetic opening goal marked the tenth goal Frankfurt have conceded in just seven days. SGE had wanted to be bold, hoping to use their attacking firepower - the second-best in the league behind only Bayern - to unsettle their dominant visitors, but Díaz dented these aspirations in a matter of moments.

Explosive attacks from both sides

“Right now, there’s a real feeling of confidence about us,” said captain Manuel Neuer. “Our passages of play are becoming ever clearer. No matter who starts or comes off the bench, everyone knows exactly what’s expected of them. That makes a huge difference – our gears are in motion, and we can help each other out more effectively on the pitch.”

The early deficit didn’t stunt the hosts, however. A back-and-forth attacking skirmish quickly ensued. After eight minutes, an attempted clearance rattled the Frankfurt crossbar, but Eintracht didn’t flinch. Just moments after, Neuer had to react quickly to deny the hosts a leveller, following their best chance up to that point courtesy of Ritsu Doan (9’), before Kane scored at the other end from an offside position (10’).

Those opening minutes were wild, thrilling, and utterly captivating, with both sides producing offensive fireworks which both defences struggled to contain. When Jean-Matteo Bahoya curled the ball into the top corner to equalise following an Eintracht counter-attack, the VAR correctly chalked it off for a handball infringement (14’). Then, it was Kane who delivered once more with a record-breaking 11th league goal of the season after just six matches. No other player in Bundesliga history has scored so many in the same timeframe.

Second goal pierces Eintracht’s heart

Once again, Bayern’s goal machine slotted the ball calmly into the far corner after being assisted by Díaz. “It’s never easy to come here and put in a performance like that. It’s always tough - they’re a good side, the atmosphere is intense and they make it hard for you,” said Jonathan Tah. The goal didn’t just double Bayern’s advantage; it took the wind out of Eintracht’s sails. The hosts seemed torn between trying to hit back and putting a stop to Bayern’s dominance at their own stadium, and prioritising defensive stability to avoid conceding again.

It was also Díaz’s fourth assist – all of them for Kane. With the lead in hand, Bayern gradually assumed control of the possession and passing stats. Eintracht’s hopes of an upset slowly leaked away, like air escaping from a balloon. “Whenever we defended inside the box, we were never really under threat,” said captain Neuer. “We handled that excellently. Going forwards, we built up from the back well in the first half and made the most of our counter-attacks in the second.”

A composed display of strength

The second half was an impressive display of dominance, composure and professionalism as Bayern’s defence allowed Eintracht just a single (harmless) shot and thus celebrated their fourth clean sheet in six Bundesliga games. Up front, the record champions continued to play with their usual swagger, coming close to a third goal multiple times. “We did very well today and were very solid,” said head coach Kompany. “In the second half, that joy in our play and our forward energy returned. That always gives us a strong foundation.” Sporting director Christoph Freund added: “It was already a very good result in the first half. At 2-0, the way the game had been going was perfect for us at that point. I think in the second half, we had much more control of the game, hardly allowed anything, and only conceded one or two minor chances.”

Hearts in mouths before final whistle

That said, there was one worrying moment just before the end: Eintracht goalkeeper Kauã Santos collided with Kane, taking out his legs. Had Kane not been offside when receiving the pass, it would have been a penalty. The Bayern striker needed treatment and was substituted shortly after but quickly reassured everyone: “I’ll be recovering for now - I took a bit of a knock. Give it a few days, then everything should be fine again. So it’s not a problen for the national team, I’ll be there on Monday.”

The visitors did still add one more goal to seal the victory, again courtesy of the brilliant Díaz. Raphaël Guerreiro set the counter-attack up perfectly, slipping the Colombian through, who squeezed the ball under the crossbar from a tight angle at the near post to round off an emphatic 3-0 win.

Bayern celebrated their tenth win in as many competitive matches, whilst Neuer also hit a personal milestone: his 362nd Bundesliga victory drew him level with former team-mate Thomas Müller, though in this outstanding form of his team, it won’t be long before he claims the record for himself. “The feeling in the squad is clear: we want to keep pushing,” concluded Kane.
