Boca switch to 120th anniversary crest on social media | OneFootball

Boca have surprised supporters by switching their social media profile image from the traditional star-studded badge to a commemorative crest.

According to LaNumer12.com.ar, the club made the change without prior notice or an official statement. Its X profile now shows the emblem created for the 120th anniversary in 2025.

The design matches the current kit and has sparked rumours it could become the permanent crest. Reaction online has been divided, with many praising the new image and purists calling for the historic design to return.

The digital tweak carries no legal effect, and the institution has not changed its emblem. Any official switch would require amending Article 1, clause 4, of the club Statute, which stipulates stars must mark each championship and that any new star needs approval from the Assembly of Representatives.

As things stand, the official badge remains the historic shield bearing 74 stars formally approved by the Assembly.

The timing coincides with a separate stir, a leaked works plan for La Bombonera that targets a capacity of 80,000 without relocation. Proposals include turning the current third tier into a popular terrace for about 12,000 extra places and a full overhaul of boxes on Del Valle Iberlucea, tripling capacity in that area.
