Bruno Genesio, refreshed and assured, ready for OM’s pressure cooker?

After a draining end to his Lyon spell in spring 2019, Bruno Genesio has since adjusted his course. Seven years on, he arrives at OM, a club known to test everyone, with firmer footing and valuable perspective.

According to L'Équipe, in May 2019 Marseille were still seeking Rudi Garcia’s successor and a TV panel bandied around candidates. Presenter Estelle Denis suggested Genesio, noting his availability, and the idea was met with laughter.

Back then, the coach had been set to extend at Lyon, his club of the heart. That prospect disappeared after a Coupe de France elimination and a catastrophic start to April in the league.

Genesio was in Marseille on Saturday as OM faced Nice in a friendly.

He now brings a steadier base and valuable perspective to Marseille. He seems renewed, calmer and more assured.
