With a goal different of 18:0 in their last three matches, the Yellow & Blacks will travel on Sunday to Rheda-Wiedenbrück, where FSV Gütersloh play their home games at the Tönnies Arena. According to coach Markus Högner, the recent win against Fortuna Köln (6-0) was also discussed during preparations for the clash with the team currently at number 12: “In the video analyses, I have explained that despite the early 3-0 lead, we should have maintained the high pace. The players were not as focused as at the start of the game, which led to a few unnecessary errors.”
For this reason, the coach expects a more focused performance right from the start, for the upcoming match against FSV Güterslohg. Although the team relegated from the 2. Womens Bundesliga has still not secured a win in the current Regionalliga season, strong performances against the likes of Bayer 04 Leverkusen U23 (0-0), SGS Essen U21 (2-2) and the current league leaders 1. FC Köln U21 (1-2), should serve as a warning according to Högner. “Gütersloh may currently be in the bottom third of the table, they have a very talented and young team, that is tactically very well-organised and can defend effectively. We have to counter them with our pace, and for the full 90 minutes of the game.” Following their relegation last season, FSV Gütersloh underwent a complete personnel turnover. The team was almost fully rebuilt, and Mark Oliver Stricker, previously coach of the second team, was promoted to head coach of the first team.
The players that left the club in the summer include Melanie Schuster, Ronja Leubner, Lucy Wisniewski and Celina Baum, who are now all playing for BVB. Midfielder Noreen Günnewig also has a past in Gütersloh: In the 2016/17 season, she played for FSV in the U17 Bundesliga. She later played five years with the first team in the 2. Bundesliga. “We have to expect a highly motivated vibe on Sunday,” says Markus Högner. “The home team will be determined to get points against us.” Apart from the two players with long-term injuries, Melanie Schuster and Mia Scholle, the coach has all players available for this clash.
The match against FSV Gütersloh will be played at the artificial turf of the Tönnies Arena in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. Tickets are available in the hosts' Online-Ticketshop. The ticket office will be open on matchday from 13:00 CET. As usual, the match will be broadcast live and free of charge on Pluto TV.
