Esperance coach Patrice Beaumelle says his team must use home advantage against Al Ahly in CAF Champions League quarter-final.

Beaumelle focused on first-leg advantage

Head coach Patrice Beaumelle stressed the importance of a strong first leg when Esperance Sportive de Tunis face Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.

The two African giants will meet on 15 March in Tunis for first leg while the return match will take place in Cairo on 21 March. Speaking to the official website of CAF, Beaumelle described the tie as one of the most anticipated clashes of the tournament.

“We must use our home crowd”

Beaumelle said Esperance are preparing with maximum intensity for the match and understand the importance of playing the first leg at home.

The coach explained that his team must take advantage of the support from their fans to build a positive result before the second leg in Egypt. According to him, a strong performance in Tunis will help the team approach the away match with more confidence.

He also confirmed that the squad is fully ready for the challenge, with all key players available ahead of the big encounter.

Esperance ready for a high-level battle

Beaumelle added that playing in front of their supporters will give the team extra motivation. He asked his players to show determination from first minute and to play with intensity throughout the match.

The Tunisian side are aiming to control first leg and put pressure on Al Ahly before traveling to Cairo for the decisive match.

The winner of the tie between Esperance & Al Ahly will qualify for Champions League semi-finals. In the next round, they will face the winner of the quarter-final between Mamelodi Sundowns & Stade Malien.
