Tomorrow night isn’t a free pass, Celtic needs a positive result but so too does Feyenoord as according to Pierre van Hooijdonk, Robin van Persie battling to save his job…

Tomorrow night sees Celtic take on Feyenoord in the Europa League group stages, match-day five, and it goes without saying that we need to achieve a positive result if we have any realistic aspirations of qualification to the last 16.

A draw would be considered a positive result for Celtic, but a win is what we should be aiming for, although admittedly it will be difficult, especially if we perform the way we did in in Denmark last time out in this competition against FC Midtjylland.

Some are hinting that tomorrow’s game pales into significance in regard to Sunday’s trip to the capital to face Hibs at Easter Road, but whilst I can see the logic behind that, it’s incorrect in my opinion as we should be aiming to win every game, and tomorrow’s is no exception.

A win in Rotterdam would do more than just boost our Euro chances, it would give us a much needed shot of confidence going into a tough run of fixtures that we face in the coming weeks, with a change in management team next week seemingly likely now. So the game in Rotterdam will be Martin O’Neill last European match as interim Celtic manager and he’ll not want to bow out having taken zero points from his two Europa League matches.

After our visit to Easter Road on Sunday lunchtime, Celtic faces Dundee, Hearts and Roma at Celtic Park, before another meeting with St Mirren, this time in the Premier Sports Cup final. Incidentally if you are on the HCTS you can buy your tickets for the final now on the official Celtic website. Everyone on the HCTS is eligible for a ticket this time around and any remaining tickets will then go on sale to the rest of the support.

That’s then and for no it’s all about facing Feyenoord. A win in Rotterdam would be a welcome boost and be great for both Martin O’Neill and also incoming Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy.
