Chelsea are positioning to join the race for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson this summer, intensifying a battle led by Manchester City.
The i reports that Chelsea plan to “hijack” attempts by City and Manchester United to sign the England international, while The Telegraph says a mooted £100 million fee could be prohibitive for United, leaving City ahead.
A valuation around £100 million has been suggested, potentially rising if Forest avoid relegation and Anderson enjoys a strong World Cup. The 23-year-old joined Forest from St James’ Park in summer 2024 for £35 million, effectively £15 million after Odysseas Vlachodimos moved the other way for £20 million.
Anderson has since become a key figure for club and country. During the last international break he said his focus was on this summer’s World Cup and playing for England.
He missed Forest’s Europa League win over Porto last week following the death of his mother, Helen. He returned for Sunday’s 4-1 victory over Burnley as tributes were paid.
Vitor Pereira’s side moved five points clear of the relegation zone with five games remaining. They travel to Sunderland on Friday night, then host Aston Villa next Thursday in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final.
