Chivas maintained the momentum they showed at the end of the regular season of the 2025 Apertura, but lacked the accuracy needed to take the lead on aggregate and ended up drawing 0-0 against Cruz Azul on Thursday night at the Estadio AKRON in the first leg of the quarterfinals. The Guadalajara team performed well defensively and created constant danger for Cruz Azul, but they will need to add goals to that performance next Sunday in the second leg, as they must win by any score to advance to the semifinals.
El Rebaño took control of the game with quick combinations from the first third of the field, accompanied by suffocating pressure on the opposing team that allowed them to recover important balls and stay in the capital's territory for most of the game. However, the Rojiblancos were thwarted by Gudiño's gloves, which prevented them from scoring the desired goal.
The return leg is scheduled to be played this Sunday, November 30, at 7 p.m. at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, where we know that Chivas will have the full support of the #CapitalRojiblanca as the team and fans seek to advance to the next round of the playoffs together.
The dangerous ones
- So close, 'Cotorro'! In the 3rd minute, he cut through the defense like a knife through butter on a set piece, connecting with Álvarez's pass, but missing the target by a whisker.- In the 17th minute, 'Efra' fired a left-footed shot from distance that grazed the side netting of the Celeste goal.- What 'Hormi' did! In the 23rd minute, the top scorer picked up a rebound in the heart of the area, feinted and turned to get away from his marker and shot at the near post, but Gudiño's glove sent the ball out for a corner.- LEDEZMA! In the 31st minute, 'Richy' fired an impressive volley on the rebound that was destined for the back of the net, but Gudiño made another save.- HUGE 'TALA'! In the 81st minute, the Mexico and Rebaño goalkeeper stood firm on the line to deny the opponent a goal from Márquez's header.- In the 87th minute, Rangel appeared again, leaning to his left to block Celeste's shot from the edge of the box.- In the 90th minute, Aguirre sent a cross to the far post to Miguel Gómez, who hammered it with his head, but his shot went over the bar and out of play.
