Corinthians beat SESI Araraquara, await Paulista quarter-final rivals

On the afternoon of this Thursday, the 23rd, Corinthians returned to the court for the Women's Basketball Paulista Championship. At the Mini Gymnasium of Parque São Jorge, the Furiosas hosted SESI Araraquara for the last round of realignment and, after a very balanced match, excelled in the final quarter and secured a victory by 65 x 59.

With this result, the alvinegras finished the realignment not only at the top of Group B but also undefeated, with six wins in six games. In the quarterfinals, Corinthians will face the fourth-placed team from Group C, which is yet to be determined between the teams of Taubaté and Pró-Esporte Sorocaba.

In Thursday's game, coach Bruno Guidorizzi could not count on Bia Oliveira, who felt discomfort in her ankle. Thus, the starting five were Thayná Silva, Tássia Pereira, Yasmim Gonçalves, Licinara Rodrigues, and Alana Gonçalo. On the bench, available were Glenda, Nazinha, Jamile, Jaqueline de Paula, and Julia Mansilha.

Corinthians started fast, opening the score with Alana Gonçalo, the main highlight at the beginning. SESI Araraquara quickly balanced, valuing defensive rebounds and increasing the pace. Vitória Marcelino hit a three-pointer, while Débora Costa and Aline Moura put the visitors ahead. The alvinegras sought a reaction but ended up losing the first quarter by 20 x 14.

In the second period, Thayná Silva shone by reducing the difference in the early minutes. Laurah and Cacá Martins maintained the pressure for Araraquara, but Corinthians bet on marking and intensified the pace, exploiting the opponents' mistakes. Jaque de Paula and Glenda helped close the score gap. Alana Gonçalo secured the turnaround in the final minute, taking the Furiosas to halftime with 32 x 29.

The third quarter saw constant leadership changes on the scoreboard. Aline Moura put SESI back in front, but Tássia and Yasmin took advantage of their strength in offensive rebounds and returned control to Corinthians. The period became more physical, with fouls and adjusted defenses. Cacá Martins converted free throws, and Jaqueline responded, maintaining the tie: 46 x 46.

The last period was marked by the Corinthians' comeback with Alana Gonçalo, who opened with a long-distance shot. Thayná Silva extended the lead, but the opponents stayed close. In the final minutes, however, the Furiosas opened up the advantage again with plays from Licinara and Tássia, and in the final minute, Alana confirmed the result to seal the victory by 65 x 59.
