In an official statement, the Federación Costarricense de Fútbol (FCRF) parted ways with the 57-year-old Mexican headmaster and his coaching staff after Los Ticos shockingly finished third in Group C during the third round of CONCACAF qualifying.

"Miguel Herrera and his coaching staff will no longer be the head coach of the Costa Rican National Team, effective this Thursday, November 20," the statement read.

"The Executive Committee will begin the process of evaluating candidates to lead the national team in the coming days, ahead of next year's FIFA international windows."

"Further information on the process will be provided in due course."

After coasting during the second qualifying round, the regional power struggled in their third-round group featuring Haiti, Honduras, and Nicaragua, ultimately banking just one win alongside four draws and finishing four points behind eventual group winners Haiti.

It's the first time since 2010 that Costa Rica have failed to feature in the summer tournament, despite boasting a squad featuring the likes of NYCFC star Alonso Martínez.
