Daniel Peretz has been left frustrated as his move to Southampton stalls.

The 25-year-old is currently on loan to Hamburger SV from Bayern Munich, but he has struggled for regular game time.

It appeared that he would complete a move to Southampton this week, but the Israeli goalkeeper is now facing an anxious wait.

Earlier this week, we reported that Southampton were close to signing Peretz on loan for the rest of the season.

At the beginning of December, Peretz said: “I expected to be the number one. That hasn’t been the case so far. Of course, I’m not happy about it. I’m not making any secret of that. I think no footballer is satisfied when he’s not playing. My goal remains to play every game.”

Florian Plettenberg further added that the move is a ‘done deal’ and that the goalkeeper has undergone his medical to complete the move. He will join on a six-month loan, with Southampton having the option to buy him permanently.

Journalist Luca Bendoni added that the Saints will have an option to buy for around €8m, but there’s now a fresh twist in the transfer.

The latest transfer twist

In a dramatic U-turn, Peretz’s move to Southampton is currently on hold.

Bayern reportedly want to terminate the loan deal with Hamburger and send Peretz to Southampton, as he has not been getting enough games.

The goalkeeper himself wants to leave Hamburg, but the Bundesliga club will only let him go if and when they get a new backup goalkeeper. As things stand, they expect Peretz to be back in training this weekend.

Peretz reportedly went on strike and is refusing to train with Hamburger. Bayern are helpless here, as they have no clause to terminate the loan this month.

The goalkeeper joined Bayern from Maccabi Tel Aviv in the summer of 2023 and has made only seven appearances for the senior side. He is not in Vincent Kompany’s plans for the future.
