The Eintracht duo celebrate convincing wins as Chaibi closes in on World Cup qualification. A round-up of Monday’s internationals involving Eintracht players.
The penultimate day of the first FIFA international window of the new season involved six Eintracht players and a lot of goals. Having started their World Cup qualifying campaign with a goalless draw against Scotland, Rasmus Kristensen and Denmark collected their first win, beating Greece 3-0 at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus. Kristensen played the whole of the match.
It wasn’t such a good night for his Scandinavian neighbour Hugo Larsson, who was substituted at half-time in a 2-0 loss in Kosovo. In the same group, Switzerland made it two wins from two games with a 3-0 victory over Slovenia, with Aurèle Amenda an unused substitute.
Algeria on the verge
Algeria are close to booking their ticket for next summer’s tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico. With eight out of 10 matches played, the North Africans are four points clear at the top of Group G after a 0-0 draw against Guinea at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca on Monday night, where Farès Chaibi was on the pitch until the second minute of added time.
There were goals galore at Rodney Parade in Newport, where Wales and Denmark kicked off their U21 Euro qualifying campaigns. Oscar Højlund – who played the duration – and his team-mates were 2-0 down after 28 minutes, but turned the game around in stunning style to win 6-2. Højlund set up the equaliser that made it 2-2. Staying at U21 level, albeit in friendly mode, Jean-Mattéo Bahoya played 46 minutes in France’s 3-0 victory over Serbia.
