The DR Congo federation has moved to reassure over Ebola concerns and, with FIFA, has scrapped a planned Kinshasa camp for their 2026 World Cup build-up. The federation said in a statement that preparations will be reshaped to comply with United States health rules.
The intervention came two days after a White House directive requiring the squad to remain in a bubble to take part in the tournament, staged from 11 June to 19 July across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Fecofa held a videoconference with FIFA and adjusted its programme accordingly.
It stressed that all selected players, and much of the technical staff, live and work in Europe, so there is no concern about potential infection.
Staff members who left Kinshasa on 20 May for Belgium, where the team will play its warm-up matches, must spend at least 21 days in Europe before travelling to the United States.
FIFA has also agreed to study a proposal from the Fecofa president for refunds to DR Congo supporters who bought World Cup tickets but could not secure visas under current US administrative and health measures.
At their first World Cup since 1974, the Léopards face Portugal on 17 June at 19:00 French time, then Colombia on 24 June at 04:00 and Uzbekistan on 28 June at 01:30, in Group K.
