Dybala still out with fever

There’s little good news for Gian Piero Gasperini ahead of the league trip to Cagliari. Paulo Dybala, who seemed poised for a possible starting spot at the Unipol Domus on Sunday, December 7, has been sidelined by the flu.

Roma’s number 21, as reported by Sky Sport, didn’t train at Trigoria today due to fever and flu-like symptoms.

However, the fever appears to be just the latest obstacle in a troubled season for Dybala so far.

The Argentine, who returned to action last week—starting on Thursday against Midtjylland and coming on as a substitute against Napoli on Sunday—has become a constant unknown factor in the attack.

The numbers tell a stark story: just 479 minutes played in the first 13 Serie A matchdays, the lowest total of his Italian career.

The striker is forced to deal with ongoing physical setbacks and a performance that has seen him appear far from ideal. Against Midtjylland and Napoli, the Argentine appeared hindered, even avoiding set pieces.

Having missed a staggering 411 minutes due to injury at this stage of the season, an even worse figure than during his rookie years at Palermo, forces Gasperini to constantly reshape his attack.

Consequently, if his form doesn’t improve in the coming days, Baldanzi’s starting chances against the Sardinians will rise again.

Roma, who have learned to do without one of their most important players even in the most crucial matches, will have to rely on alternatives to get back to winning ways.
