Everton head coach Brian Sorensen insists the Toffees are ‘still finding their feet’ after suffering their third consecutive defeat in Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to Manchester City.
The Toffees started out the season with an emphatic 4-1 victory over local rivals Liverpool at Anfield.
They have since suffered defeats to Tottenham and the London City Lionesses in the Women’s Super League.
Goals from Jade Rose, Yui Hasegawa and Vivianne Miedema sealed a 3-1 victory for Manchester City in the Women’s League Cup on Wednesday, with Hikaru Kitagawa scoring a late consolation.
Everton signed nine players during the summer transfer window, and head coach Brian Sorensen says the Toffees are ‘still finding our feet’ as he seeks consistency from the Women’s Super League side.
It comes after he previously said Everton were ‘in the same boat’ as London City Lionesses, who signed 17 players over the summer.
He said: “It’s a journey we are on with a lot of new players, we are still finding our feet and gelling. Consistency will come if we stay away from more injuries.
“Manchester City has very good individual players. The way (Yui) Hasegawa played tonight, Bunny (Shaw) in the first-half, Grace Clinton, they find moments to hurt us and we need to be good at containing that.
“It wasn’t the result, but we can use that (the performance) going forward for sure.”
Sorensen questioned City’s first goal, but also criticised moments where his players suffered a lapse of concentration.
He said: “The negative is that small lapse of concentration and they get a goal which was too easy. We need more consistency in our performances.
“The first goal for me is a free-kick but they don’t see it and the second is a mistake from us and you can’t do that at this level. I thought we came back into it but then they caught us on transition.
“Overall, it’s not that they didn’t deserve to win. Our moments were a bit up and down and we need consistency, but there were positive signs in a lot of things.”
Everton Women will hope to return to winning ways when they host Brighton on Sunday.
The Toffees suffered two defeats to the Seagulls last season. After a 4-0 loss away from home, they suffered a late 3-2 defeat at home, following Nikita Parris’ 93rd-minute goal in April.
Everton will return to League Cup action on October 19th when they face WSL 2 side Nottingham Forest at Goodison Park.
The Toffees will hope that their new signings have gelled into the squad by the time they face Forest next month.
