EFL pundit Lee Hendrie has branded the ongoing situation regarding Sheffield Wednesday's players not being paid on time as "an absolute shambles".

It was revealed on September 29 that the players at Sheffield Wednesday had been informed that they wouldn't be paid on time this month.

This is the fifth violation in the space of just seven months by Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri, after he also failed to pay his players on time in March, May, June and July.

It's got to the point where fans are becoming desensitised towards the severe mismanagement of the club, as many aren't surprised at all about this revelation.

However, it is a continuation of what truly is a damning period for Sheffield Wednesday, and former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie believes that it's only going to cause more frustration among the fans and the staff at the football club.

The fact that Dejphon Chansiri has been able to get away with what is now a fifth delay in wage payments in just seven months is incredible. It's already reached a farcical level, and Hendrie relayed that in an exclusive interview with Football League World.

"It's ridiculous," he said. "It's going to have a knock-on effect on the players at the football club.

"They're not expecting their wages, and that's going to create more frustration for the players, the staff and the fans.

"It's an absolute shambles, it's so unacceptable that they might not be getting paid on time, but that just shows where the club is. I say that time and time again."

Somehow, despite the club crying out for help for over half a year now, nothing has progressed, and Wednesday fans must be starting to think what the point of these protests are, because their voices clearly aren't getting heard.

The fact that the state of Sheffield Wednesday is arguably getting worse, too, just highlights how ridiculous it is that the club has been allowed to continue in the state it is currently in.

"It's getting worse and worse," Hendrie concluded. "And it's absolutely terrible what is happening at the moment."

The state of Sheffield Wednesday paints the current crop of players as absolute heroes

Despite Dejphon Chansiri's best efforts, Sheffield Wednesday have still been able to play football matches and have been more competitive than anyone would have expected them to be during the infancy of the current Championship campaign.

These players have swiftly turned into cult heroes among Owls fans, as they look to cling on to some hope that their club can weather this typhoon-like storm and get out on the other side. There have been a few bright spots recently, but these players are ones that Wednesday can be proud of.

The current crop of stars is clearly still going for the fanbase, but the disgust and distrust of the owner flows through them as well as those in the Hillsborough stands, as shown by the side potentially refusing to train later on this week.

It seems Wednesday's players may be taking more of a stand against Chansiri, which will only serve to improve their likability among the fanbase.
