The 2026-27 football calendar is set to change. FIFA is expected to officially announce a change to national team fixtures in the next few hours, specifically affecting the months of September and October.

After the 2026 World Cup, the two traditional autumn breaks will be combined into a single period.

The longer break, scheduled from September 21st to October 6th, will see national teams play four consecutive matches, not two as usual.

This new format will therefore result in two league weekend breaks, with the aim of reducing the number of interruptions during the season and concentrating international fixtures into a single window.
