According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Hansi Flick voiced disappointment with Pedro Fernández, Dro, after the 18-year-old told Barça he would trigger his release clause, worth six million euros, to leave this month. The destination was not disclosed, and Flick said he would comment only once it is done.
Dro has been separated from the first team since signalling his exit. Flick hinted the split could yet be avoided.
He had fast-tracked the Galician, taking him on pre-season, promoting him to the seniors and giving him a debut and four appearances.
Speaking to the academy overall, Flick cited Marcus Rashford as a team-first example and said Barça demands total commitment. He added that coaches give youngsters trust and that those who merit it play.
With many homegrown players in the squad, Dro may feel competition from Pedri, Olmo, Fermín and Gavi is intense. Flick said daily work with elite players makes youngsters better, and he understands impatience when Pau Cubarsí and Lamine Yamal are starters at 18 and full internationals. He questioned the perspective of Dro and his entourage, suggested money could be a factor, noted Iván de la Peña is his agent, and said the player lacked a contract bridging minority to adulthood.
