Sunderland have tied down 21-year-old Ukrainian winger Timur Tutierov on a new contract after starring in Saturday’s 5-1 pre-season win at York City.
Director of football Florent Ghisolfi said the club were delighted with his commitment and that the deal rewards his progress and attitude. He added that Tutierov is humble, hardworking and eager to learn, and that Sunderland are committed to giving talented young players chances when they are ready.
The winger scored and supplied an assist at the LNER Community Stadium after being named in Régis Le Bris’ first-half XI.
He joined from Kolos Kovalivka in April 2023 and struck six goals with one assist in seven Premier League 2 outings at the start of 2025-26.
That form led to a first senior loan in England with Exeter City, where he registered three goals and one assist in 17 League One appearances before returning to the Academy of Light this summer.
His future appeared uncertain at the end of last season, with a permanent exit possible in a deal similar to those agreed for Zak Johnson and Harrison Jones. A change in stance has followed, with this extension reflecting Sunderland’s belief in his long-term potential.
Tutierov will now aim to build on his York display over pre-season. Another loan could be considered to secure regular senior minutes, while Europa League and domestic cups may also provide opportunities under Le Bris.
