A former Blues player has claimed that Chelsea are ‘a level below the trophies they need to win’ right now.
It comes on a morning where it’s being claimed that Chelsea actually pay a very high wage bill for their players despite using low base contracts with incentives. The claimer believes that due to the success Chelsea have had on the pitch lately, that their wage bill is actually very high right now.
But former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes that Chelsea need to now go on and win more than just the Club World Cup and the Conference League to really push on and up their levels.
Chelsea went up to third place in the Premier League this weekend by beating Wolves 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, and this has set them up to be challenging for top four again this season at the very least, and they might even be dreaming for more. Petit thinks that they should be dreaming for more right now.

As cited by The Metro this week, Petit, who also played for Arsenal in the Premier League, said:
“Chelsea need to win the Premier League and other big trophies, they’ve started well with the European Conference League and Club World Cup, but they’re a level below the trophies they need to win.”
I do agree with this – we do need to now target all the big trophies in the game. But I also don’t like this idea that the Club World Cup for example, is a mickey mouse trophy. I think winning that has been played down too much by too many people. Not saying Petit has done that here, but many others certainly have.
It was a huge achievement to win that trophy.
