Chelsea fans have been excited about Andrey Santos for a long time.

It’s been a while since the deal was agreed to sign him – first we saw him shine in Brazil, then make the step up to Europe, where he was a star for Strasbourg last season.

There were fears in the summer that, having fattened up his price tag, the Blues were considering selling him on. The lack of minutes in the Club World Cup hinted that he might be on the way out.

Santos stays put to finally get to work at Chelsea

In the end, those fears were unfounded. Chelsea didn’t sell Santos. In fact, they rejected offers, including a huge one from Saudi Arabia towards the deadline.

One person who really appreciates Santos and his game is former Blues midfielder and Brazil international Ramires. He spoke exclusively to Simon Phillips’ Substack about Santos:

“Andrey Santos is a talented midfielder with great potential. I’ve seen his ability to control the game and contribute both defensively and offensively. It’s important for him to keep developing his skills and adapting to the demands of the Premier League,” Ramires said.

“If he continues to work hard and learn from experienced players, I believe he can become a key asset for Chelsea.”

Santos ready to step up and play important role

Santos has not had a huge amount of minutes yet, but the constant injuries to Romeo Lavia plus Dario Essugo’s new problem should mean that changes soon, especially once the Champions League gets going.

He’s going to be a key player, and we’re just as excited as Ramires to see him flourish with games and experience at the top level. There is world class potential in there, and we don’t say that lightly.
