Former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Rafa Mir has been sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison in Spain for sexually assaulting two women.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, a lower court in the Valencia region ruled the assaults took place in 2024 at Mir’s home in Valencia, where he was based at the time. The judges imposed seven years for sexual assault and a further 18 months for causing physical harm.
A second player, identified in court documents as Pablo J G, a lower-division footballer, was given two-and-a-half years for sexual assault and causing physical harm.
Mir, 28, spent last season with Elche in La Liga on loan from Sevilla, and his Elche deal expires at the end of this month. He joined Wolves in 2018, made four appearances without scoring, and left for Sevilla in 2021 after three loan spells.
Mir denied wrongdoing, saying the women consented to sexual relations. The court said the victim’s testimony was consistent and credible, supported by witnesses and forensic reports. The victim was awarded €64,000, $74,300, in compensation, and the ruling is not yet final and may be appealed.
